Today, I’m going to be sharing a list of 10 things to stop buying to save money. We’re all guilty of spending money on unnecessary items. Although it’s important to treat yourself every once in a while, you will save so much money if you cut back on purchasing these items.

Are you finding that your paycheck is gone just as quickly as it arrives, leaving you with less money for each month? Are you trying to save up for something special, like buying a home?

Creating a budget and sticking to it doesn’t have to be difficult. You can easily improve your finances by taking a look at your current spending habits.

10 things to stop buying to save money:

1. Coffee

This includes Starbucks, Dunkins, and anywhere else you can buy a quick cup of coffee. By skipping Starbucks every day for a whole month and brewing your coffee at home, you will save +$130 a month, depending on location and what your typical order is.

2. Dining out

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m lazy about cooking dinner. We usually end up going out and getting fast food. Depending on where we go, our total usually comes out to $12-$30. By cooking dinner at home, that’s a savings of $48-$120 a month, if you only eat out once a week.

3. Bottled water

Instead of buying cases of bottled water, opt for a reusable water bottle instead. If you have hard water, you can purchase a faucet filter to get clean water. Not only will you be saving money on cases of water, but you’ll also be saving the environment!

4. Magazines

Do people even read magazines anymore unless they’re at their doctor’s office? Magazine subscriptions are so unnecessary anymore as we have all the information we need at the touch of a button.

5. Gym memberships

Be honest with yourself. How often do you actually go to the gym to use your membership? If you’re like me, you have a gym membership with good intentions, but after a couple of months, you quit going. Why not cancel that membership and work out at home? There are tons of at-home workout ideas on Pinterest and YouTube!

6. Designer products

When you’re buying a designer item, you’re paying for the name. Instead of trying to impress others and wasting your money, go for the “knock-off” brand. I have saved a lot of money by buying the cheaper product and it works just as well. Now, don’t hear me say NEVER buy a designer product. If you’ve got your eye on something and you know you’ll get a ton of use from it, go for it!

7. Cigarettes

Smoking is an awful habit not only for yourself but for others around you. The average pack of cigarettes costs $6.28. If you’re smoking a pack a day, that’s $188 per month you could be saving if you quit! Quitting smoking can do wonders for your health.

8. Manicures/pedicures

Getting a mani/pedi or even both is a great way to pamper yourself every once in a while. But getting them done every 2 weeks can really add up. The average cost for a pedicure is $20-$50, and a manicure’s average cost is $19-$22. If you still want nice nails, give yourself a manicure at home to save more money in the long run.

9. Hair treatments

Just like a mani/pedi, hair treatments can be just as expensive especially if you regularly get your hair done and/or colored. Rock your natural color and those grays, girl! As they always say, gray hair is just your glitter shining through.

10. Subscription services

Have you ever had a transaction come out of your bank automatically because you forgot you were subscribed to a free trial and forgot to cancel it? You’re not alone!

It’s helpful to remember what subscriptions you are paying for, but sometimes that doesn’t always happen. By signing up for Billshark, they’ll find and cancel all of those subscriptions for you. They can even lower your monthly bills!

Wrapping up…

I hope you found this list helpful and that you can start saving money easily.
